The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach Gives Green Power a Whirl
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach has teamed up with Santee Cooper to present “Solar Sundays,” fueling the SkyWheel with Santee Cooper’s Green Power every Sunday throughout the end of the year. It is the first Myrtle Beach attraction and the first observation wheel on the East Coast to run on Green Power.
“High visibility comes with high responsibility, and we are taking the SkyWheel to new heights by using Santee Cooper Green Power to illuminate the SkyWheel green on Solar Sundays,” said Sean Bailey, SkyWheel Myrtle Beach Marketing Manager. “Protecting the environment is important to us, and we’ve worked with Santee Cooper on beach cleanups and other environmental initiatives, so we knew it would be a good fit for our business to be a Santee Cooper Green Power Partner.”
SkyWheel Myrtle Beach, like other Green Power Partners, shares a vested interest in the protection of the environment for current and future generations. This is the first step in SkyWheel’s commitment to Green Power and its team continues to implement other ways to operate sustainably for years to come. Santee Cooper uses proceeds from Green Power sales to build additional renewable generation.
“The SkyWheel has become an iconic feature of the Myrtle Beach skyline, and we applaud their commitment to using and promoting Green Power to millions of Grand Strand visitors,” said Vicky Budreau, Santee Cooper Chief Customer Officer. “Using Green Power is also a great way to show their environmental commitment to the local community, most of whom are Santee Cooper customers.”
Santee Cooper Green Power is electricity generated from renewable resources, like wind, solar and landfill gas. Santee Cooper Green Power helps preserve the environment, reduces demand for our non-renewable natural resources, and increases our energy independence. Green Power is Green-e Energy certified and meets the environmental and consumer protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Learn more at www.green-e.org.
